A game-worn jersey belonging to Michael Jordan from Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals has reportedly been sold for a record-shattering $14m in a private transaction. Hunt Auctions announced that the autographed Chicago Bulls garment was purchased by Miami real estate investor Ron Firman.
The sale marks the highest price ever fetched for a piece of basketball memorabilia. According to the auction house, this specific jersey ranks as the second-largest sale in history among game-worn sports jerseys globally, trailing only a Babe Ruth New York Yankees jersey that went for $24.12m in 2024.
Jordan and the Bulls famously defeated the Utah Jazz in six games during that 1998 championship run, which marked the final title of his storied career in Chicago. Game 2, played in Salt Lake City, featured a dominant performance by the guard, whose efforts later became the focal point of the widely discussed "Last Dance" documentary.
David Hunt, president of Hunt Auctions, claimed in a statement that the astronomical price reflects Jordan's enduring influence on popular culture. He suggested that the sports memorabilia marketplace has allegedly escalated into an elite asset class comparable to iconic works of art, though market experts frequently debate such valuations.
