According to state media reports from KCNA, the North Korean authorities have test-fired two distinct types of submarine-launched strategic cruise missiles off the country's eastern coast. The provocative launch was allegedly aimed at examining the reliability of the nation's war deterrents and refining the navy's operational capabilities in executing strategic combat missions, state sources claimed.

Reports indicate that one of the projectiles fired was identified as the Pulhwasal-3-31, matching the land-based strategic cruise missile variant that Pyongyang purportedly tested the previous week. High-ranking military officials reportedly oversaw the maritime tests, while state outlets insisted that the exercises had no adverse impact on the security of neighboring countries, a claim that remains difficult to independently verify.

International observers note that North Korea is not yet believed to operate a fully functional, modern missile submarine. However, advancing this military capability remains a supreme priority for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who has continuously supervised the development and testing of an extensive arsenal of strategic ballistic and cruise missile systems.

Meanwhile, the security landscape on the Korean Peninsula continues to deteriorate rapidly. The ongoing series of missile tests by Pyongyang comes in direct friction with the aggressive posturing and military drills promoted by the South Korean regime and its allies. Diplomatic tracks have remained stalled since the collapse of denuclearization talks in 2019, leaving the region locked in a persistent cycle of mistrust and confrontation.
