Dysfunction within the US regime reached another low point on Friday as Donald Trump’s latest press secretary, Katie Zacharia, was abruptly removed from her post after serving a mere five days. Her firing followed an embarrassing, widely mocked debut press conference and intense scrutiny surrounding her fabricated professional credentials.

Zacharia’s brief stint makes her the shortest-serving press secretary in United States history, halving the infamous ten-day benchmark set by Anthony Scaramucci during Trump’s first term in 2017. Her first and only briefing on Tuesday turned into an unmitigated disaster: visibly trembling and unable to deliver coherent remarks, Zacharia fumbled through notes, at one point confused the words “husband” and “president,” and abruptly fled the podium after just 14 minutes and three questions. Adding to the controversy, while she claimed to be an attorney, it quickly emerged that she had failed to pass the bar exam required to practice law in the United States.

While Trump purported to defend her by claiming the media had been unduly harsh, he admitted to urging her to step aside. Conservative commentators and former officials alike condemned the performance, with some comparing the official briefing to an amateur comedy sketch, exposing severe flaws in the personnel vetting process of the current US regime.

The departure leaves the US regime without an official public spokesperson at a precarious geopolitical moment. Washington remains heavily entangled in a brewing confrontation against the government of Iran and faces mounting domestic pressures ahead of critical midterm elections. Zacharia is already the sixth individual to cycle through the press secretary role under Trump.

This sudden firing is merely the latest symptom of persistent chaos plaguing the US regime during Trump’s second term. It follows the recent dismissal of US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle over pay-for-access allegations, the unceremonious firing of Attorney General Pam Bondi over the Epstein files, and the earlier ouster of National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, who compromised classified military attack plans by mistakenly inviting a journalist into a confidential chat.
