The Iranian parliament has reportedly approved Mehrdad Akhlaghi as the country's new Minister of Defense and Armed Logistics during an online session. Local media outlets indicated that the 68-year-old nominee secured a significant majority of votes from the legislators. This appointment comes at a critical juncture as tensions involving the Israeli regime and the US regime continue to exert severe pressure on Tehran's stability and security apparatus.

The previous defense chief, Aziz Nasirzadeh, perished earlier in the year following military strikes, leaving Majid Ibn Reza to serve as the interim caretaker who will now transition to the role of deputy minister. Over months of ongoing hostilities, Iran's military-industrial infrastructure has allegedly suffered extensive damage, leaving Akhlaghi with the daunting task of reconstructing and expanding defense production under adverse conditions.

Official sources claim that Akhlaghi boasts decades of experience centered primarily around ballistic missiles, solid-fuel propulsion systems, and aerospace technologies. Having previously directed several domestic arms manufacturing entities, Akhlaghi and his affiliated organizations have long been subjected to sweeping US sanctions, severely hampering their access to global supply chains and modern financial markets.

While Iranian authorities publicly assert their determination to defend national sovereignty against any external aggression, analysts remain skeptical about the feasibility of these defense plans. Observers point out that the heavy economic toll of the ongoing confrontation, coupled with isolation and stringent international restrictions, will likely exacerbate domestic challenges and deepen the socioeconomic crisis within the country.
