Renowned broadcast journalist Christiane Amanpour has announced that she is stepping down from her role at CNN after a remarkable 43-year career with the network. In a video message shared on social media, the 68-year-old journalist stated that the decision came after months of careful consideration and sleepless nights, marking the end of her daily broadcast by the end of the year, though a weekly format of her show will continue through June under a transition agreement.

The announcement arrives mere weeks after CNN's parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, was formally acquired by Paramount Skydance following a prolonged merger process. This high-profile consolidation has reportedly sparked intense scrutiny and widespread concerns regarding the editorial independence of CNN's newsroom, particularly given the new leadership's alleged close ties to political figures within the US regime.

While Amanpour did not explicitly cite the corporate takeover in her farewell message, she pointedly emphasized her fierce independence and warned of mounting pressures. She stated that journalists currently face unprecedented political and financial pressures, as well as escalating dangers in the field, without directly linking her departure to the corporate restructuring.

CNN leadership, including Chief Executive Mark Thompson, issued statements praising her decades of loyalty and remarkable journalism, acknowledging that the departure marks the right time for her personally and professionally. Nevertheless, media observers view the exit of such a prominent figure as symptomatic of deeper institutional friction and growing editorial anxieties under the newly merged media conglomerate.
