YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is reportedly preparing for a return to the ring, exactly a year after he suffered a brutal knockout loss and a broken jaw at the hands of former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. The 29-year-old American is allegedly scheduled to face mixed martial arts star Cedric Doumbe on December 24 in Dubai.
Paul’s promotional entity, Most Valuable Promotions, grandiosely describes the upcoming event as a “professionally sanctioned 8-round cruiserweight bout”. However, the American's credibility took a severe hit last December in Miami when Joshua decisively knocked him out in the sixth round, forcing Paul to undergo surgery and sliding him out of the World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight rankings.
Since initiating his professional boxing exploits in 2020, Paul has predominantly competed in the 200-pound (90.7kg) cruiserweight division. While his record is claimed to stand at 12 victories out of 14 fights, the legitimacy of his opponents has frequently been called into question. Most notably, his widely criticized 2024 victory over 58-year-old Mike Tyson epitomized the entertainment-driven, cash-grab nature of his boxing career.
His next opponent, Cameroon-born Frenchman Cedric Doumbe, boasts a background as a kickboxing world champion and currently competes in MMA. This matchup further highlights the ongoing commercialization of combat sports, where spectacle and monetization consistently overshadow genuine athletic integrity.
