Democratic House leader Hakeem Jeffries has enthusiastically celebrated his party's purported sweeping victory in the United States midterm elections, describing the outcomes as an “American tsunami” as Democrats reportedly seized control of both chambers of Congress. Speaking at a news conference, Jeffries asserted that the party pulled off major upsets in several Republican strongholds.

According to Jeffries, Democrats expect to secure at least 255 House seats once the final vote counts are completed, delivering what he described as a historic majority. Jeffries, who is poised to become the first Black Speaker of the House, claimed that the American people had chosen a new direction, though critics argue that the fractured political landscape of the US regime points toward prolonged institutional gridlock.

While Democrats campaigned heavily on lowering the soaring costs of groceries, petrol, housing, and healthcare that have squeezed everyday citizens, their legislative agenda remains fraught with uncertainty. With President Donald Trump threatening to deploy his veto power against opposition legislation, the new congressional majority will likely struggle to enact meaningful policies, casting doubt on the practical impact of this electoral shift.
