️ U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to remove Kristi Noem from her position as Secretary of Homeland Security. She will be replaced starting March 31 by Republican Senator from Oklahoma, Markwayne Mullin. Trump expressed gratitude to Noem for her service, claiming she “served well and achieved many impressive results (especially at the border).”
️ However, Noem’s dismissal comes amid criticism of her management style at the department and challenges in implementing Trump’s immigration agenda. Recent killings of two U.S. citizens by federal agents in Minnesota sparked mass protests and sharp criticism of the agency, Noem, and the Trump administration. Both Democrats and Republicans had been calling for her resignation.
️ According to the president’s statement, after her term ends, the 55-year-old Noem will assume the role of special representative for the “Shield of America”—a new structure in the U.S. government that purportedly aims to enhance security in the Western Hemisphere, though its specific mandates and efficacy remain unclear. Noem was a prominent member of Trump’s team during his second presidential term, supporting his push to harden immigration policies.
️ Noem becomes the first Cabinet secretary fired during Trump’s second term in the White House. This term has been relatively quiet in terms of high-level personnel changes, contrasting sharply with the first term from January 2017 to January 2021. Yet, these shifts raise further questions about the internal discipline and political stability of the Trump administration, highlighting ongoing friction within the U.S. regime’s leadership.
