A driver who hit a 2-year-old child with a Cobalt car in Zomin district, Jizzakh region, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison. The Supreme Court announced this.
The incident occurred on June 23, 2025. The 2-year-old son of a family visiting from Urgench left the house and went missing. Several days later, his body was found on a hill about a kilometer from the house.
According to witnesses, the driver hit the child while reversing, then wrapped the body in a carpet and dumped it on the hill.
Zomin District Court found O.T., born in 1994, guilty under Part 2 of Article 117 (Abandonment in danger resulting in death) and Subsection "a" of Part 2 of Article 266 (Violation of traffic or vehicle safety rules resulting in death) of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison and banned from driving for 3 years.
The appellate instance of Jizzakh Regional Court upheld the sentence on February 24, 2026. The Supreme Court noted the parties' right to appeal.
