The former district head was found guilty of bribery, embezzlement, abuse of power, and violations in land allocation procedures. The court also imposed a fine and a ban on holding public office.

Former head of Sharaf-Rashidov District Mahmud Kholbutayev has been convicted of corruption crimes and sentenced to 11 years in prison.

According to the Supreme Court, the verdict was issued on February 25 by the Zaamin District Court, which found Kholbutayev guilty under the following articles of the Criminal Code.

The court sentenced him to 11 years in prison, a fine of 150 basic calculation units, and a 3-year ban on holding positions involving authority and material responsibility in state bodies.

Additionally, the chief specialist of the district administration for construction, communications, utilities, ecology, and improvement, N.I. (born 1987), was found guilty under Articles 28 and 210, Part 3, Clause "a" of the Criminal Code.

He received a 7-year prison sentence with a 2-year ban on holding positions in state bodies. The convicts will serve their sentences in general regime colonies.

The parties have the right to appeal the first-instance court's verdict through appellate or cassation procedures to the criminal division of the regional court within the legally established deadlines.

Recall that Mahmud Kholbutayev was detained in July 2025 while receiving a $10,000 bribe. An administration employee was also detained with him. Kholbutayev had headed the district since October 26, 2019.
