A 6-year-old child fell into an underground high-voltage transformer unit at State Kindergarten No. 66 in Fergana, suffering severe burns from an electric shock. The child is currently hospitalized.
The incident occurred on February 18 while the boy was playing in the kindergarten yard. The hazardous area, which was put into operation two years ago, lacked proper safety barriers, with the door sealed only with plastic sheeting.
In an interview with Kun.uz, the head of the company that built the transformer unit stated that fencing was not included in the project design, but securing the basement was necessary, and negligence by staff contributed to the accident.
On February 26, the spokesperson for the General Prosecutor's Office, Hayot Shamsutdinov, announced that a criminal case has been initiated under Article 116 of the Criminal Code (failure to properly perform professional duties). An investigation is currently underway.
