Former Chairman of Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (GKNB) Kamchybek Tashiyev commented on his dismissal, stating that the decision was "unexpected" for him. His statement was published by supporters on social media.

Currently, Tashiyev is in Germany, where he is undergoing heart treatment. In his statement, he noted that he previously (in 2021) underwent surgery and traveled abroad with the president's permission for medical examination. According to him, he did not anticipate the decision to relieve him of his duties. At the same time, he emphasized that in any case, the head of state's decision must be implemented.

"I served our state, our people, and the president honestly and am proud of it. Unfortunately, I was not given the opportunity to say goodbye to the personnel. I thank every GKNB employee and wish them success," the statement reads.

In conclusion, he called on citizens to comply with laws, avoid illegal actions, and maintain peace and stability in the country.

On February 10, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov signed a decree on the early termination of the powers of State Committee for National Security Chairman Kamchybek Tashiyev. He also lost his position as Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Japarov explained his decision as being in the "interests of the state."

In a statement published by his press secretary Askat Alagozov, it was noted that with this step, the president aimed to "prevent division in society, including between state structures, and instead strengthen unity."

After Tashiyev's resignation, a decree was signed to amend the structure of the GKNB. According to the document, the Border Service will be separated from the committee and become an independent agency, while the committee's 9th Service will be transformed into a State Guard Service subordinate to the country's president.

Kamchybek Tashiyev has traditionally been considered a close ally of incumbent President Sadyr Japarov.

Under previous presidents, he was in opposition and participated in the 2011 presidential elections, placing third with 14.32% of the vote.

In October 2012, he and Japarov were leaders of a rally in Bishkek against the development of the Kumtor mine and participated in the storming of parliament. Both were detained and convicted at that time.

In October 2020, Tashiyev also actively participated in protests that ended with Sooronbay Jeenbekov stepping down as president and Sadyr Japarov coming to power. As a result of these events, he headed the GKNB of Kyrgyzstan.

Over the next five years, Tashiyev became the second most influential person in the country.

Japarov's presidency began with the announcement of a large-scale anti-corruption campaign, and in implementing this mission, the GKNB under Tashiyev's leadership received broad powers.

Under his leadership, the committee detained numerous high-ranking officials on corruption charges and returned billions of funds to the state budget.

"Over five years of the campaign, the GKNB replenished the budget by 300 billion soms (34 million dollars)," Tashiyev stated in an interview with journalists in December of last year.

According to him, more than a thousand real estate properties and 30,000 hectares of land were returned to the state.

"Laws were violated during privatization. Objects did not function for their intended purpose. [...] Corrupt officials demolished buildings, sold property, divided and resold land for personal enrichment. Many social facilities were also illegally privatized. In general, until 2020, corrupt officials plundered the state as much as possible," Tashiyev said.

He also represented Kyrgyzstan's interests in resolving border issues with neighboring countries, including participating multiple times in negotiations with the Uzbek delegation.

In a recent interview for a documentary about Japarov, he recounted that negotiations with the Uzbek side were not easy: once a conflict arose between him and Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, after which negotiations were suspended. Later, heads of state intervened, negotiations resumed, and all issues were resolved.
