Belarus has declared its readiness to share the experience and knowledge accumulated during the construction of its first nuclear power plant with Uzbekistan. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Viktor Karankevich made this announcement during a meeting with his Uzbek counterpart in Minsk on April 6, emphasizing the pursuit of mutually beneficial cooperation in the nuclear energy sector.
According to Karankevich, concrete steps have already been taken in this direction. Specifically, the leadership of Uzbekistan's atomic energy agency "Uzatom" visited the construction site of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelAES), where they familiarized themselves with the operational organization and infrastructure. Additionally, the two sides signed a roadmap for the coming years, outlining planned collaborative projects.
The Belarusian side expressed willingness to directly participate in the construction of Uzbekistan's nuclear power plant using its own specialists. Uzbekistan confirmed its interest in engaging Belarusian experts. This meeting is part of a targeted policy by both countries to enhance cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy.
Previously, on March 9, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, during a meeting with Uzbekistan's Ambassador Rahmatulla Nazarov, offered assistance from Belarusian specialists in nuclear plant construction and expressed readiness to organize training for national personnel. These developments indicate a deepening energy partnership between Minsk and Tashkent, though the long-term economic and logistical challenges of such projects remain to be addressed.
