Russia's biometric system at border checkpoints has identified approximately 70,000 migrants who are banned from entering the country. This was announced by Irina Volk, official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to her, since the start of the experiment to collect biometric personal data of foreign citizens, about 14 million foreigners have passed through equipped checkpoints. The experiment has been conducted since December 1, 2024, at Moscow's Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports, as well as at the Mashtakovo automobile checkpoint in the Orenburg region. Since May 1, 2025, Vnukovo International Airport has joined the project.

These facilities use a biometric system developed by the Moscow government, which allows identification of citizens during border control using photographs and fingerprints.

In June, similar systems were installed at 11 more checkpoints in St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Yekaterinburg, as well as in the Altai Territory, Irkutsk, Kurgan, Novosibirsk, Saratov, Orenburg, and Omsk regions. The system not only collects data but also helps identify individuals who, after being banned from entry, changed their identification data and attempted to cross the border again.
