Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced an increase in supplies of Russian oil and natural gas to Uzbekistan during a meeting with Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov. The discussion took place at the 6th session of the Joint Commission at the level of heads of government of the two countries in Tashkent. Mishustin stated, "Agreements have been reached to continue supplies of Russian oil and natural gas and to increase their volumes."
Energy is viewed as a key area for enhancing cooperation between the nations. Russia is not only boosting hydrocarbon exports but also participating in the modernization of Uzbekistan's energy infrastructure, including drilling new wells, upgrading processing capacities, and the gas transportation system. These projects are expected to contribute to the republic's energy security and economic development.
In 2025, trade turnover between the countries grew by 12.5%, approaching 1 trillion rubles. Moscow and Tashkent plan to increase mutual trade to $30 billion by 2030. Abdulla Aripov confirmed that energy cooperation is developing steadily, with the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region under a Russian project opening a new chapter in the partnership.
Specific volumes for the increased oil and gas supplies were not disclosed. The next major platform for discussing projects will be the Tashkent International Investment Forum in June 2026. This meeting may serve to further strengthen economic ties between the two states.
