In the Namangan region of Uzbekistan, two chief specialists from the Main Department of Construction and Housing and Communal Services have been detained on suspicion of corruption. The officials are accused of soliciting a large sum of money from a local entrepreneur in exchange for illegal services.

According to the investigation, these officials demanded $22,000 for a favorable decision on issuing a construction permit, architectural planning assignment, and approval of project documentation for a two-story non-residential building in the Yangi-Namangan district. They allegedly received the first installment of $7,000 back in March of this year.

During an operational measure conducted by the State Security Service (SSS) in collaboration with the Department under the General Prosecutor's Office, one of the suspects was caught red-handed while receiving the remaining $15,000. Shortly thereafter, the second chief specialist was also detained in accordance with procedural norms.

A criminal case has been initiated against the detainees, and investigative actions are underway. Law enforcement agencies are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any instances of corruption via the SSS hotline at 1520. The state guarantees the confidentiality of informants.
