Two chief specialists from the Main Department of Construction and Housing Utilities in Namangan Region have been arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe from a local entrepreneur. According to the State Security Service, it was established that they requested $22,000 in exchange for a positive resolution on construction permits, architectural planning assignments, and project documents for a two-story non-residential building in the Yangi Namangan district.
The specialists received $7,000 of the agreed amount in March. During an operational event, one of them was caught with material evidence while receiving the remaining $15,000. Additionally, the second chief specialist was detained in a procedural manner in connection with the case.
Currently, a criminal case has been initiated against the suspects, and investigative actions are being carried out. This incident highlights ongoing corruption issues in the construction sector of Namangan Region and demonstrates the authorities' active measures in combating such crimes.
Preliminary information suggests the suspects are accused of abusing their official positions. The investigation may uncover other suspicious activities linked to them. The case has sparked discussions among local entrepreneurs and citizens, as corruption could negatively impact economic development in the area.
