Turkish law enforcement agencies have determined the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Uzbek citizen Hurriyat Tursunbayeva, who had been listed as missing since 2019. Following a large-scale review of archived cases, police proved that the woman was murdered by her husband, who concealed the crime for seven years.
The active phase of the investigation was reopened in March 2026 due to inconsistencies identified in the case materials. Operatives established that Tursunbayeva did not officially leave Turkey, while her mobile number continued to be registered within the country after her alleged disappearance. Suspicion intensified due to the actions of her spouse, a citizen named Ersil: immediately after the incident, he filed for divorce, claiming his wife had voluntarily left the family.
The decisive stage of the investigation was a search of the couple's former apartment in the Maltepe district. Using modern forensic reagents, experts discovered hidden blood traces in the kitchen and on the balcony that had not been destroyed by time or numerous cleanings.
The suspect was detained while attempting to enter Turkey from Georgia. During interrogation, the man confessed to his guilt, explaining that he committed the murder during a domestic quarrel fueled by jealousy. According to the investigation's version, confirmed by the detainee's testimony, he temporarily hid the body on the balcony, explaining the peculiar smell to neighbors as pigeon breeding, before disposing of the remains through the household waste collection system.
Currently, the main suspect and his accomplice, who helped him hide using forged documents, are under arrest. The case materials have been sent to court.
The resolution of Hurriyat Tursunbayeva's archived case occurred against the backdrop of a series of other tragic incidents that have been at the center of public and diplomatic attention since the beginning of 2026. Earlier this year, Istanbul police uncovered a serial crime in which 37-year-old Durdona Hakimova and 32-year-old Sayyora Ergashaliyeva were victims. The investigation established that both women were killed by their compatriots in the same rented apartment.
