In Khorezm region, a police officer, Umarbek Atamuratov, drove while intoxicated and hit a 29-year-old woman, who later died in hospital.
The incident occurred on September 27, 2025, on the Urgench-Shavat highway. Atamuratov was driving a Tracker-2 vehicle with its headlights off and struck the pedestrian on the roadside. The impact caused the woman to fall into a ditch, sustaining severe injuries. The driver stopped but fled the scene without providing assistance.
In court, Atamuratov admitted to consuming alcohol. He claimed he felt the impact but did not help the victim due to feeling unwell and lacking money. The victim's husband emphasized the driver's failure to assist.
The Shavat District Court found Atamuratov guilty under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic rules resulting in death) and Part 2 of Article 117 (abandonment in danger). He was sentenced to 3 years and 1 month in prison and banned from driving for 3 years.
