๏ธ The government of Uzbekistan has introduced a new initiative offering preferential loans to young people and educators for pursuing higher education at prestigious foreign institutions. According to a government decree, the loans are available to Uzbek citizens up to 30 years of age, as well as teachers, who have been admitted to bachelor's or master's programs at universities ranked within the top 300 globally by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) or The Times Higher Education (THE).
๏ธ The maximum loan amount is set at up to $20,000 in national currency per academic year. Repayment of the debt will commence seven months after the completion of studies and will be spread over a period of seven years. The interest rate is equal to the Central Bank's base rate.
๏ธ To apply for the loan, individuals must approach a bank and submit an application, identity documents, an invitation letter or academic results, a study contract, and an invoice with the university's details. Teachers over the age of thirty are additionally required to provide an extract from their work record book.
๏ธ Only citizens of Uzbekistan are eligible to be borrowers. This development is part of broader educational reforms in the country, where plans are underway to implement a new training format based on international standards in medical universities starting from the 2026/2027 academic year.
