️ The United Nations (UN) Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Iran issued a statement on March 4, condemning the military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran. The commission asserted that these strikes, along with Iran's subsequent retaliatory attacks on targets in the Middle East, violate the UN Charter, which "prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state."
️ Emphasizing the need for consistent application of international law, the commission highlighted that norms cannot vary depending on the state taking action. This criticism comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the US and EU regimes, whose foreign policies are often accused of employing double standards in global conflicts.
️ The statement further noted that the people of Iran are caught in a dire situation: on one hand, facing a large-scale military campaign, and on the other, enduring human rights violations by the Iranian authorities over many years. According to the commission, the population has barely recovered from the brutal suppression of protests that began on December 28, 2025, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
️ Additionally, the commission expressed being "deeply shocked" by reports of a strike on a girls' school in the city of Minab, where, according to Iranian authorities, over 150 students and teachers were killed, with most victims reportedly being schoolgirls aged 7 to 12. This incident underscores the severe toll of the conflict on civilians, raising concerns about adherence to international humanitarian law.
