The government of Uzbekistan has announced comprehensive plans to support women's entrepreneurship and enhance female employment. According to a statement by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, over 25 trillion soms are planned to be directed towards these goals by 2026. These funds will be used to create job opportunities, launch business projects, and finance professional training programs for women.
For the current year, the target is to provide income sources for 1.5 million women. Measures will include expanding access to financial resources and improving educational opportunities. A key tool will be the "Income for Women" program, which aims to create employment for 50,000 women in sectors such as home-based work, crafts, poultry farming, and beekeeping.
Simultaneously, the "Accompaniment" initiative will be implemented, allocating 1 trillion soms to launch 3,000 women-led business projects. These projects are designed to boost women's economic independence by providing startup capital and advisory services.
Educational measures are also outlined, with plans to train 166,000 women in in-demand professions and entrepreneurship, and an additional 100,000 women in information technology fields. These efforts aim to help women adapt to market demands and secure higher-income jobs.
Past experiences indicate that such programs yield effective results. In 2023, preferential loans totaling 23.5 trillion soms enabled over 425,000 women to start their own businesses. The government intends to build on this success and further increase women's economic participation.
