The construction of a 52 km toll road on the Tashkent-Charvak route is planned to be completed within three years. Asliddin Isayev, deputy director of the "Avtoyo‘linvest" agency under the Committee of Automobile Roads of the Ministry of Transport, stated in an interview with "O‘zbekiston 24" TV channel that project documentation is being prepared, with international consulting companies involved. Preliminary agreements have been reached with Qatar's Protocol Capital Group and South Korea's Korea Expressway Corporation.
Protocol Capital Group is a major Qatari investment company with assets exceeding $4 billion, having implemented over 1,000 projects in 34 countries. Company representatives held negotiations with Transport Minister Ilhom Mahkamov and Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade Laziz Qudratov. The project covers a broad portfolio including construction materials, oil and gas, and other sectors.
The new route will shorten the distance from Tashkent to Charvak Reservoir, reducing travel time from the current 80 minutes to approximately 35 minutes. This is expected to not only improve transport conditions but also address the frequent "mega-traffic jams" on this popular tourist route. Isayev noted that the road could serve up to 250,000 vehicles annually, with a maximum speed limit of 150 km/h.
A second phase of the project is also planned, extending 9 km towards the Sea Breeze complex. Earlier reports indicated construction is set to begin by the end of 2026, with the initial length of 56 km later reduced to 52 km. Transport Minister Ilhom Mahkamov announced in the summer plans to build the new highway without affecting the existing route.
Additionally, other toll road initiatives are under discussion: the Tashkent-Samarkand toll road, including the 171 km Tashkent-Angren-Qamchiq section, is estimated at $3.66 billion, with interest from French, Turkish, and Chinese companies. These projects aim to develop the country's transport infrastructure and contribute to economic growth.
