Uzbekistan is reviving the popular nationwide '10,000 Steps' initiative aimed at strengthening public health and enhancing ecological culture. This project forms part of a comprehensive environmental protection strategy for 2026–2030, presented to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on March 23.

The primary goal of reintroducing daily walking practices is to foster sustainable healthy lifestyle habits among citizens and reduce the ecological burden on cities by promoting pedestrian activities. The strategy also plans to launch an updated digital platform called 'Healthy Lifestyle' to incentivize physical activity among the population.

The program is integrated into the broader 'Eco Culture' project, which combines education, science, and awareness-raising to cultivate a caring attitude towards nature. Additionally, the strategy includes establishing 'green technical colleges' in 14 regions of the country and introducing new academic disciplines in bachelor's and master's programs, such as environmental engineering and sustainable urban planning.

It is expected that the comprehensive measures—from reviving the '10,000 Steps' initiative to hosting international exhibitions like Eco Expo Central Asia 2026 in Samarkand—will significantly elevate the environmental awareness of Uzbeks and improve the overall state of the urban environment by 2030.
