Uzbekistan has been awarded the prestigious title of "Migratory Species Champion Plus" at the opening of the 15th global environmental conference of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS COP15) in Campo Grande, Brazil. This recognition solidifies the republic's status as a world leader in protecting rare animals that cross international borders, with the international community highly commending Tashkent's contributions to conservation efforts.

During its presidency of the Convention from 2024 to 2026, Uzbekistan evolved from a regional participant into a key player in environmental diplomacy. At the plenary session in Brazil, the Uzbek delegation officially handed over leadership to the host country, presenting a report on tangible achievements, ranging from combating poaching to strengthening international legal barriers that hinder the illegal removal of animals from their natural habitats.

The new "Champion Plus" status is not merely an award but a confirmation of the country's commitments for the period 2026–2028. The Samarkand conference (COP14), held two years earlier, served as a starting point for new global initiatives to protect biodiversity. Now, Uzbekistan's experience in creating cross-border protected natural areas and implementing innovations in environmental policy will serve as a model for other participating countries of the Convention.
