Uzbekistan, Tashkent – AN Podrobno.uz. In Uzbekistan, nearly a thousand pharmacies have been found to have hundreds of thousands of cases of unjustified overpricing on medicinal drugs. As a result, participants in the pharmaceutical market obtained illegal income amounting to 8.5 billion soums.
According to the Committee for the Development of Competition and Consumer Rights Protection, the detection of violations was made possible through cooperation with tax authorities. Information on instances of exceeding maximum trade markups is automatically transmitted to the Fair tech information system, where each case is inspected and measures are taken.
During 2025–2026, thousands of signals were received into the system, leading to inspections covering 991 pharmacies, including 152 wholesale and 839 retail outlets. In total, over 414,000 cases of price inflation were identified. The total sum of unjustifiably obtained income reached 8.5 billion soums.
Based on inspection results, recalculations were made in favor of consumers, and measures were taken to restore their violated rights. Additionally, materials regarding violations of licensing requirements were forwarded to the Center for Pharmaceutical Product Safety.
In some cases, the violations led to more severe consequences. For instance, in 2025-2026, licenses were revoked for several companies, such as Farm Effekt, Pharma Brend, Gipofiz Farm, Maxsudbek Biznes, The Great Farm, and Medex Group Pharm. The basis for this was the systematic overpricing of medicinal drugs.
The Committee emphasized that work in this direction will continue. The authorities intend to further identify violations, apply measures against unscrupulous market participants, and publish information about such cases in open access.
It is recalled that since March 1, 2026, retail prices for nearly two thousand prescription drugs have been reduced. Consumers are advised to compare costs with reference prices via the pharm.gov.uz portal or the PharmUz mobile application when purchasing medicines.
