Tashkent has announced the upcoming launch of the "Samarkand 2028" satellite, developed by the Chinese company StarVision. As revealed at the international Space Technology Conference, the satellite is scheduled for launch in May this year. This project is seen as a significant step in enhancing bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and China in the space sector.
The project is based on a memorandum of cooperation previously signed between the two countries. The document outlines the development of collaboration in satellite technologies, implementation of joint projects, and strengthening of scientific and technical integration. The name "Samarkand 2028" has been assigned to a Chinese hyperspectral satellite, highlighting its historical and cultural significance.
The initiative is considered one of the key efforts within the partnership aimed at expanding capabilities in space research and technology. Concurrently, the Uzbek Space Research and Technology Agency "Uzbekcosmos" announced plans for a nationwide selection of a candidate for a space flight. Citizens meeting the criteria, including students and practicing professionals, will be eligible to participate, fostering increased interest in the space industry within the country.
