In the Andijan Region of Uzbekistan, Deputy Hokim for Tourism, Culture, and Mass Communications Isomiddin Ismonov has been detained on suspicion of corruption and fraud. According to investigative authorities, the official demanded $50,000 from a citizen in exchange for facilitating the registration of 20 acres of land from the state reserve in the "Bobur Shaharcha" area and obtaining a construction permit.
As reported by Kun.uz, Ismonov allegedly promised to organize an auction through the head of the regional construction and utilities department and then issue the necessary documents. On April 4, based on a citizen's complaint, officers from the State Security Service and the prosecutor's office conducted an operational event, apprehending the deputy hokim at his home while he was receiving the money.
On April 5, the Andijan Regional Prosecutor's Office initiated a criminal case against Ismonov. He is charged under Article 168, Part 4, Clause "a" ("Fraud") in conjunction with Article 25 ("Preparation and Attempt"), and Article 211, Part 3, Clause "a" ("Bribe-Taking") in conjunction with Article 28 ("Complicity") of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. These are serious offenses that could lead to severe penalties, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat graft among public officials.
Isomiddin Ismonov was appointed as the deputy head of the regional administration for tourism, culture, cultural heritage, and mass communications in December 2025. Previously, he served as the head of the Operational Situation Analysis Department within the Operational Search Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan. This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on corruption within the country's administrative structures, reflecting persistent challenges in governance and law enforcement.
