Indian military personnel have arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the joint military exercise 'Dustlik'. The maneuvers are taking place at the Gurumsaray training ground from April 12 to 25. According to the Indian defense ministry, about 60 personnel from each side are participating. The Indian contingent includes army and air force units, such as infantry divisions, while the Uzbek side has deployed land forces and aviation units.
The 'Dustlik' exercise is held annually, alternating between the two countries. In 2025, the maneuvers took place in India, in the city of Pune. The primary goal of the exercise is to develop military cooperation and enhance readiness for joint operations in semi-mountainous terrain. Special focus is placed on physical training, joint planning, tactical actions, and practicing the use of special forces units.
During the training, military personnel practice terrain orientation, conducting strike operations against simulated enemy bases, and capturing controlled territories. An exchange of experience and familiarization with the operational procedures of both armies is also planned. The final stage will be a 48-hour comprehensive exercise, where participants will drill scenarios for joint special operations, including the neutralization of illegal armed formations.
It is expected that 'Dustlik' will strengthen interaction between the armed forces of the two countries, increase the level of coordination and mutual understanding, and aid in the development of defense cooperation between Uzbekistan and India. Previously, the international military exercise 'Birlik-2025' was held in Uzbekistan at the Kattakurgan training ground, with military units from five countries participating: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan.
