A new higher education institution is set to commence operations in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, starting from the 2026/2027 academic year. This university will operate on a self-financed model, meaning it will independently attract financial resources without reliance on the state budget. Additionally, a technical college for training mid-level specialists will be established within the university, aimed at expanding the country's capacity to produce qualified personnel.
The decision to create the new university was announced on April 14 during a video conference on urbanization issues chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. At this meeting, the head of state listened to reports from leaders in the construction sector and entrepreneurs, and discussed proposals and initiatives for the development of urban planning and infrastructure.
Furthermore, plans are underway to open the first creative park in Tashkent for architects, designers, and urbanists. This project is designed to foster a creative community and encourage innovative solutions. The President also ordered the creation of similar parks in the regions, which is expected to contribute to regional development and support local economies.
The opening of this new educational institution and creative parks highlights the ongoing reforms in education and urban development in Uzbekistan. However, challenges such as financial sustainability, quality personnel training, and infrastructure issues remain, and their effective resolution will determine the future success of these initiatives.
