Uzbekistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baxtiyor Saidov, announced that Rwanda has become the 167th country to establish diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan. This historic event took place within the framework of a diplomatic forum in Antalya, Turkey, where the formal initiation of ties between the two nations was marked.
During the meeting, Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Baxtiyor Saidov and Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olive Nduxungirexe, signed a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations. This document serves as a foundation for developing political, economic, and cultural links between the two countries.
Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to establish a mechanism for political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two states. This memorandum creates an opportunity for regular discussions and strengthening of bilateral relations in the future.
Baxtiyor Saidov described these signings as another important step in Uzbekistan's path to expanding relations with countries on the African continent. According to his statement, these actions are part of a strategy aimed at increasing the country's activity on the international stage.
This development follows Uzbekistan's establishment of diplomatic relations with Lesotho in late March, highlighting Uzbekistan's drive to broaden its diplomatic network in Africa. However, the practical outcomes and economic benefits of these new ties remain unclear, raising questions about the effectiveness of future cooperation.
