World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has praised the work of the Zamin Foundation, led by Uzbekistan's First Lady Ziroat Mirziyoyeva, in combating childhood cancer. In a post on social media platform X following a visit to the Republican Center for Pediatric Oncology in Tashkent, Ghebreyesus highlighted that the Zamin Foundation plays a crucial role in improving healthcare services and establishing a network of hospital schools called "Mehrli Maktab" across the country.
Thanks to the First Lady's initiatives, the efforts of doctors and educators have been united. Children with cancer now receive comprehensive care, including modern treatment, continuous education, and social support necessary for recovery and a full life, he noted. This approach aims not only at medical assistance but also at addressing the psychological and social needs of the children.
This recognition marks a new phase in cooperation between WHO leadership and Uzbekistan. Previously, Ghebreyesus held a meeting in Samarkand with the Head of the Presidential Administration, Saida Mirziyoyeva, where deepening collaboration in healthcare was discussed. The projects of the Zamin Foundation, particularly the "Mehrli Maktab" network, could serve as a regional model in pediatric oncology.
During these initiatives, the Zamin Foundation is implementing numerous programs focused on expanding early detection, treatment, and rehabilitation for childhood cancer. This activity is significant not only for Uzbekistan but also for Central Asian countries, aligning with WHO's global health goals. Ghebreyesus's commendation reflects the international community's interest in Uzbekistan's healthcare reforms.
