Uzbekistan, Tashkent – AN Podrobno.uz. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during a videoconference meeting on economic growth, sharply criticized local executive authorities. The head of state noted that instead of supporting businesses, many governors (hokims) are mired in bureaucracy and attempts to conceal their own mistakes, which slows down regional development.
The president's main complaint was the governors' detachment from entrepreneurs' problems. Mirziyoyev emphasized that when business issues reach the republican level, local authorities often try not to solve the problem but to find those responsible for the 'leak' of information about their shortcomings.
A striking example of such passivity was the situation in Nurafshan. Due to administrative barriers, the implementation of an investment project in the city dragged on for two years. However, instead of promptly correcting the situation, the city governor focused on finding out how information about the delay reached the presidential administration. This approach to work was deemed categorically unacceptable.
Harsh criticism was also directed at the heads of Guzar, Narpay, Urgench, Yangiyul, and Chinaz districts. Despite the fact that this year an additional 262 billion soums were allocated for the development of business infrastructure in these regions, many projects have not yet been launched.
Due to unsatisfactory work, the president instructed regional governors to immediately consider the compliance of those district and city leaders who sabotage economic development and fail to fulfill their duties with their positions.
