Uzbekistan plans to launch 13 hydroelectric power plants in 2026, with a total capacity of 114 megawatts and an annual electricity output of 537 million kilowatt-hours, Podrobno.uz reports.
On Wednesday, April 29, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on the further development of hydropower. According to the presidential press service, the new projects will create 254 jobs. Additionally, a 20-megawatt wind power plant is being built in the Bostanlyk district using $28 million in grants.
The presentation also covered plans for 73 projects to be implemented between 2026 and 2032, with a total cost of $5.8 billion. These are expected to add 3.6 gigawatts of capacity.
Globally, energy storage and redistribution systems via pumped-storage hydroelectric plants are being actively adopted. Uzbekistan is considering building three such stations with a combined capacity of 1.4 gigawatts.
Plans for constructing 2,983 small and micro hydropower plants were also discussed. Their total capacity would reach 164 megawatts.
