The United States has proposed the creation of a new alliance called the Maritime Freedom Construct (MFC) aimed at resuming and securing ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to The Wall Street Journal, a diplomatic cable from the US State Department has been sent to US embassies, instructing diplomats to seek foreign governments' participation in the alliance.
The document states that the US-led coalition will share intelligence, coordinate diplomatic efforts, and enforce sanctions. MFC will be a joint project of the State Department and US Central Command.
Although the alliance is positioned as a peaceful initiative, diplomats are required to ask foreign counterparts whether they would like to become a diplomatic or military partner.
Earlier, Iran reportedly attempted to break the diplomatic impasse by sending a new proposal to the US via Pakistan to end the military conflict. Tehran's main idea is to separate regional security from the "nuclear file" to address issues step by step.
