Uzbekistan is considering abolishing the 'Electronic Prescription' system introduced in December 2025. A draft order from the Ministry of Health has been published on the regulatory legal acts portal, proposing to invalidate the decision to implement the system.

Users have highlighted numerous shortcomings. Not all hospitals and clinics are connected to the system, forcing doctors to write prescriptions on plain paper. Pharmacies face difficulties when dispensing medications.

The system is entirely dependent on internet connectivity. During outages, doctors cannot issue prescriptions, and pharmacies cannot serve patients. The prescription requirement has even affected common medications, creating unnecessary barriers for the public.

Commentators note that the idea of control may be useful, but the system should have been tested and refined before implementation. Discussion of the new draft continues.

Earlier, Uzbekistan approved a reimbursement system mechanism that allows citizens to receive necessary medications for free or with minimal co-payment.
