On May 3-4, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will participate in the events of the 59th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Samarkand, according to his press service.

The head of state is scheduled to deliver a speech at the opening ceremony and hold a series of meetings with heads of foreign delegations. The main theme of the meeting is "Development Crossroads: Advancing a Regionally Connected Future."

The forum is expected to become one of the key international platforms for discussing global and regional economic development priorities. Participants will focus on green transformation, energy transition, digitalization, investment attraction, food security, resilience of industrial supply chains, and other issues.

The summit, running from May 3 to 6, will bring together delegations from over 100 countries, leaders and representatives of the ADB, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and other institutions, as well as about 2,000 foreign government officials, top managers of leading foreign companies and banks, transnational corporations, and prominent experts. A total of over 4,000 delegates are expected to arrive.

Uzbekistan has been an ADB member since 1995 and is among its largest partners, with a total project portfolio reaching nearly $16 billion. The country is hosting the bank's annual meeting for the second time. The 43rd meeting was held in Tashkent on May 3-4, 2010.
