A shocking case of poaching has been uncovered in Uzbekistan's Surkhandarya region, where residents illegally killed and ate two rare pink flamingos listed in the Red Book. The environmental damage is estimated at 206 million soums.

The incident occurred in the Jarkurgan and Termez districts, where a group of citizens reportedly hunted the birds in the Uchkul area. Photo and video evidence shows several people posing with the dead bird. The participants claimed they acted out of curiosity.

An investigation by the environmental police revealed that the individuals were systematically engaged in hunting and possessed hunting weapons, which were confiscated by law enforcement.

The ecological damage from the destruction of the two rare birds is estimated at 206 million soums. The case has been forwarded to the prosecutor's office for legal assessment.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, as illegal hunting of endangered species listed in the Red Book is considered a serious violation of environmental laws and a threat to the country's biodiversity.

This is not the first case of destruction of valuable fauna in Surkhandarya – earlier, inspectors from the regional ecology department discovered the killing of a rare Bukhara mountain sheep in the Babatag foothills.
