The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change has announced that the Muborak gas processing plant in the Kashkadarya region has been ordered to pay nearly 11 billion Uzbek soums in compensation for environmental violations.
A joint inspection by the State Environmental Control Inspectorate and the Environmental Police revealed that construction and other waste were illegally dumped on the plant's premises, causing negative environmental impact.
Dust particles from the waste polluted the atmospheric air. Additionally, during the flaring of harmful gases, sulfur, carbon, and nitrogen oxides were released in excess of permitted limits.
Furthermore, wastewater from gas treatment was found to be mixed with petroleum products and discharged into open areas.
The company has been assessed additional compensation of 10 billion 834 million soums and issued a mandatory 7-point instruction. The collected documents have been submitted to court.
Earlier, over 8.5 billion soums in compensation was calculated for an oil-contaminated liquid spill into a river in Boysun district, Surkhandarya. Uzbekistan is increasing fines for environmental offenses by legal entities.
