President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking at the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Turkistan, proposed that member states develop a concept for a 'Digital Turkic Corridor'. This would connect regional data centers via high-speed communication channels.
At the event, which focused on artificial intelligence and digital development, the Uzbek leader also called for creating a strategic cooperation network in AI. This would help identify new economic growth points and develop cloud and quantum technologies.
Mirziyoyev further suggested combining the efforts of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Tashkent, TURKSOY, and the Turkic Academy on a single big data platform.
The president noted that Uzbekistan is implementing the 'Five Million AI Leaders' program, through which over one million young people have already acquired basic skills. Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are establishing a joint venture fund to finance startups, and Mirziyoyev invited OTS countries to join.
To improve transport connectivity, the creation of digital logistics platforms was proposed. Mirziyoyev also suggested establishing a climate risk monitoring system based on satellite data within the OTS and declaring 2027 as the Year of Environmental Protection in the organization.
Special attention was paid to cybersecurity. Mirziyoyev put forward an initiative to create a Turkic Cybersecurity Alliance for the protection of digital infrastructure. He called for strengthening law enforcement cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism. A joint meeting of foreign ministers and intelligence heads on these issues will be held in Samarkand this year.
The informal OTS summit began on Friday, April 15, in the Kazakh city of Turkistan. Prior to the meeting, leaders participated in a capsule-laying ceremony for the foundation of the Center of Turkic Civilization.
