At the international forum 'Uzbekistan Energy Week – 2026' in Tashkent, Uzbekistan's Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov announced the country's increased participation in the construction of the Kambarata-1 hydropower plant and an initiative to create a 'green corridor' for electricity exports in the region.
The minister stated that Uzbekistan is consistently developing energy cooperation with Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. In particular, issues of participation in the Kambarata-1 HPP construction and the formation of a transcontinental energy route linking Central Asian states are being discussed.
The project plans to create a 'green corridor' involving Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Saudi Arabia, which will enable electricity exports to external markets.
According to Mirzamakhmudov, these initiatives will not only strengthen the region's energy security but also increase the share of renewable energy sources and create new export opportunities.
It was also noted that Uzbekistan aims to diversify its energy sector, develop nuclear energy, and gradually reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Experts estimate that in 2026–2030, up to $10–15 billion in investments could be attracted to energy cooperation projects in Central Asian states.
