Powerful mudslides struck the Khatyrchi district of Uzbekistan's Navoiy region, causing significant damage, according to eyewitnesses.
Videos of the incident show mudflows sweeping away cars and damaging roads. One witness also reported the collapse of a residential building.
"The mudslide blocked two main roads — the entrance and exit of our village. We are trying to prevent the roads from becoming unusable. Otherwise, entry and exit may be temporarily restricted," a resident of the Langar village told Kun.uz.
According to the Navoiy Regional Emergency Management Department, mudslides were observed in parts of Khatyrchi, Karmana, and Nurota districts. The mudflow swept away 2 cars and 5 head of cattle. Water flooded the household plots of 7 homes.
"Thirty-seven pieces of special equipment and 173 personnel have been deployed to eliminate the consequences. No casualties or injuries have been reported among the population," the statement said.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that in Khatyrchi district, a section of the road was blocked by rocks from the mudslide, damaging 7 cars and several houses.
To ensure public safety, residents of areas near the Angidon, Langar, Kattasay, and Maydansay streams were temporarily evacuated to a safe zone.
The situation is fully under control, and monitoring of the areas continues, the Ministry said.
Earlier, a 25-year-old man died in Kashkadarya after being swept away by a mudflow.
