The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan signed a resolution on May 21 titled 'On effective organization of cemetery improvement works.' The document allocates a total of 1.6 trillion soums for the renovation of over 10,000 cemeteries across the country during 2027-2029.
The resolution approves a corresponding program, with funding sources including the state budget, local budgets, charitable donations, and other funds. To improve transparency, each cemetery will now have its own personal account for donations.
Previously, only one account was opened per district, which led to poor oversight of collected funds. Now, QR codes will be introduced for voluntary donations from legal entities and individuals.
The funds raised can only be used for maintenance, improvement, and landscaping of the respective cemetery. Spending on other purposes is strictly prohibited.
