Officers from Uzbekistan's State Security Service, in coordination with customs officials, have thwarted an attempt to illegally import a large batch of medicines concealed among food products.
The incident occurred at the S. Nazhimov border customs post in the Kibray district. During inspection of a truck arriving from Kazakhstan, driven by a 52-year-old resident of the Fergana region, authorities discovered 52 types of medical devices and medicines—totaling 95,369 units—carefully hidden among food items. Later, a 40-year-old resident of the Tashkent district, who was to receive the illegal shipment, was detained.
According to expert estimates, the total value of the seized medical supplies amounts to approximately 1.3 billion soums. A criminal case has been opened, and investigative actions are underway.
Previously, a large underground workshop producing low-quality medicines and dietary supplements was uncovered in Andijan. More than half a million units of products worth around 5 billion soums were seized.
