President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan announced in his congratulatory message that this year more than 11,000 students have graduated from school with gold and silver medals. He specified that a total of 472,000 young men and women are receiving their 'ticket' to adult life today.
According to the message published on the head of state's website, 171 graduates have been admitted to leading universities worldwide, while thousands more have entered higher education institutions in Uzbekistan.
'Today's graduate is tomorrow's engineer, doctor, scientist, poet and writer, entrepreneur. Today's graduate is the builder of the Third Renaissance. You are the greatest hope and support of New Uzbekistan. Modern knowledge, professions and qualifications are ready to be provided by 207 universities and 643 technical schools in the country,' the president said.
The head of state cited famous athletes as examples for the youth: Javokhir Sindarov, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, and Abdukodir Khusanov. He reminded that they graduated from school only four to five years ago and are already inspiring the world with their achievements in chess and football.
He also noted that young filmmakers won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, and the national football team qualified for the World Cup for the first time.
'Today you have finished school, but the school of life is just beginning,' the head of state remarked.
Mirziyoyev emphasized that the labor market demands not documents but practical knowledge and skills. He urged graduates to master at least one foreign language and a modern profession. The president wished all students success and advised them not to be afraid to set big goals.
