The Uzbekistan national football team played a friendly match against Canada as part of their preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals. The match, held at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, ended with a 2-0 victory for the hosts.
The first half was evenly contested and quite physical, but neither side managed to score. Srečko Katanec's squad had excellent chances to take the lead: captain Eldor Shomurodov twice found himself one-on-one with Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau but failed to beat the keeper.
The main action unfolded after the break. In the 58th minute, the hosts broke through Uzbekistan's defense with a precise strike from midfielder Jonathan Osorio. The Uzbeks tried to equalize, attacking actively and creating a good chance through Abbosbek Fayzullaev. However, in stoppage time (90+1 minute), Canada sealed the win with a goal from Jayden Nelson. Forward Tani Oluwaseyi provided assists in both goal-scoring plays.
Defender Abdukodir Khusanov and forward Eldor Shomurodov played the full match for Uzbekistan.
This match was the penultimate test before the World Cup. On June 8, Uzbekistan will play their final friendly against the Netherlands.
