President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has criticized the slow growth rates of the chemical industry. According to him, over the past nine years, the national industry grew by an average of 6.3%, while the chemical sector grew by less than 3%.

As reported by the presidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov, the president made these statements at a meeting dedicated to the accelerated development of the chemical industry and the implementation of investment projects in the regions. The meeting took place after Mirziyoyev's visit to the Chirchik technopark.

It was noted that over the past period, $8.3 billion in investments were attracted to the sector, 87 large-scale facilities and over 60 types of new high-margin products were launched. The sector's exports tripled, and the number of employees exceeded 50,000.

However, the president noted that imports of chemical products increased and reached $4.5 billion per year. Domestic chemicals cover less than 60% of domestic demand. The value added per worker in the chemical industry is 2-3 times lower than in other countries.

Mirziyoyev criticized the activities of the company Uzkimyosanoat, which focuses mainly on large enterprises within its system, while systematic work with over 5,000 companies in the industry is poorly organized. Their problems and proposals remain unattended. It is clarified that this is why the head of state decided to personally meet with representatives of chemical enterprises to discuss accumulated issues.

Earlier it was reported that the volume of investments in the Chirchik chemical-industrial technopark is planned to be increased to $207 million by 2030. By the end of last year, $56 million had been disbursed there.
