In a historic first for Uzbek medicine, specialists from the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Surgery named after Academician V. Vakhidov successfully performed a remote robotic surgical operation.
The press service of the Ministry of Health announced this as part of a new media project 'Medical Innovators', which highlights advanced experience, innovative approaches, and modern technologies.
The event took place during the international conference 'Robotic Surgery Week – 2026' in Wuhan, China.
Young surgeon Abdurashid Abdukarimov conducted remote operations on three patients being treated in Uzbekistan. The unique surgeries were performed from a distance of 5,000 kilometers.
Robotic surgery allows the doctor to perform manipulations with high precision, reducing trauma for the patient and ensuring faster recovery.
'Remote robotic surgery is not only a scientific achievement in medicine but also a huge opportunity for patients. Such operations are performed only in a few countries around the world,' the Ministry of Health press service noted.
