An investigator from the Namangan Regional Department of Internal Affairs and a lawyer have been charged with corruption, according to a statement from the State Security Service (SSS).

The investigator allegedly promised a 20-year-old resident of Chust district, whose case he was handling, to resolve the matter favorably and close the criminal case. In exchange, he demanded $40,000 through a lawyer who was not involved in the case.

During a sting operation in Chust district, SSS officers caught the lawyer red-handed while receiving the requested $40,000 from the suspect's father. Subsequently, the investigator was also detained after accepting $30,000 from the lawyer.

The investigator has been charged under Article 210 (bribery) of the Criminal Code, while the lawyer faces charges under Article 212 (mediation in bribery). Both suspects have been placed in custody pending trial.
