The Tashkent Traffic Management Center (TMC) is implementing a new traffic scheme near the Sergeili auto market to reduce congestion on Yangi Sergeili Street and improve safety.
The Sergeili auto market has a capacity of about 5,400 vehicles, of which 3,500 are for sale and the rest are used as parking. The area also houses over 1,800 retail outlets selling auto parts and related goods. Daily, more than 1,500 vehicles use the entrances and exits adjacent to Yangi Sergeili Street, significantly impacting traffic conditions.
For many years, this location has been a bottleneck: cars slowed down to turn into the market, and exiting vehicles merged into the main traffic flow over a short distance, leading to conflicts and delays.
To address the issue, the TMC is building an additional local road along the market's perimeter. This road will separate the flow of vehicles heading to the market from the main traffic on Yangi Sergeili Street.
Under the new scheme, drivers will be able to exit the main road onto the local road and then enter the market. Similarly, exiting vehicles will use this road to merge more safely and smoothly into the main traffic flow.
Additionally, infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists is being created along the new road, which is especially important for market visitors, workers, and residents of nearby mahallas.
Inside the market, the parking area is also being reorganized. Previously chaotic parking hindered movement and created inconvenience. Now, markings have been applied for over 2,000 cars, optimizing space usage and enhancing safety.
The new scheme is expected to reduce conflict points, lower the load on Yangi Sergeili Street, and make traffic safer and more predictable.
